My mother was the florist of the family. I remember constantly being around her brilliant mind for flowers, assisting her with family weddings. She did it as a sideline while holding down a full-time job and raising a family. I used to watch her in awe as she created some of the most beautiful floristry work I have ever seen. She was the original Blooming Girl.
I grew up in the Eastern Cape and went on to study Marketing, choosing to try be creative in the corporate world. That world was not as I had dreamt, and I longed for freedom. After a stint in Cape Town, I moved back to East London and started a family, still carrying a dream to be free from the constraints of corporate life.
Then in 2017, my mother and I were asked to do a family member’s wedding at her new wedding venue. It was here where I found my true place in life. Doing flowers alongside my mother, I suddenly felt a sense of belonging. From there, we decided to quote for a wedding and managed to get the job. It was a crazy time of learning, finding flower agents, figuring out how to quote, how to find the right partners, and through many tears and laughter, the two of us formed a wonderful team called Those Blooming Girls.
My mother passed away in 2021 after a long battle with cancer. I miss her every single day. Even though I had lost a limb in my life and in my business, I chose to continue her legacy and move forward with Those Blooming Girls. I have proudly watched it grow to greater heights, and I hope that from above, she sees it and smiles.
We have had the privilege of working with many beautiful brides and look forward to creating even more unforgettable floral moments.
